What are real parents saying about REACH?

Dawna Lee said, “I cannot say THANK YOU enough to the ENTIRE STAFF @REACH for sticking with us through some really tough years and really working with my child after years of trauma and illness to find the right learning tools and programs my child needed to get back on track with their education. There truly are no words to describe my heart this time. You gave/are giving my child their future back and the joy in my heart is indescribable. Happy tears! Thank you!
To other parents reading this post: REACH may not be right for EVERY child/family, BUT neither are traditional schools or home schools. However the staff at REACH, in my opinion went above and beyond to find the right learning tools for my child after years of medical issues, a family tragedy and severe bullying in the traditional public school left us feeling like no one other than myself really cared about my child and their future. REACH STAFF cares and when one thing isn’t working they help to find other options until one works! I highly recommend REACH.”

We are so thankful for the opportunity to offer transformative, personalized education to our students. If that sounds like something up your alley, don’t forget that enrollment is coming up!

We are not even a month into summer, but we are already missing our students! What are you all up to this summer?

A young boy reads a book at this desk.
Over the summer, we want to take some time to recognize the people who make REACH what it is: our teachers! We are starting strong with Melinda Koch!

Melinda has been a teacher for over 20 years and this will be her 5th year with REACH. Melinda chose to work with REACH because of the unique 4-day schedule the Evans Valley campus offers and the amazing students and families she gets to work with.

For fun, Melinda likes to travel, read, and paddleboard. Over the summer, Melinda is going to Europe for 3 weeks with her daughter and mom!

Thank you for all you do, Melinda! We so appreciate all the thought and care you put into your work!

And just like that… The 2025-26 school year has come to a close.

Our families deserved a celebration, so that is what we did! The End of the Year Celebration is one of our favorite events. Everyone gets to come together and simply have a good time.

They all worked so hard, they ought to party hard!

Thank you all for such an amazing year! (And a huge thank you to our volunteers who helped make this happen!)

Bikes, sneakers, and kids, oh my! Last week, our Evans Valley kids took to the track to raise money for our school. They got pledges beforehand and chose to be either a runner or a biker. The pledges will go towards PE equipment and classroom supplies. On Friday, they had an hour to do as many miles as they could and they did a great job!

Today is National School Lunch Hero Day! And, boy, do we have some really phenomenal lunch heroes for our kids. For our place-based and hybrid students, they can either bring a lunch or have a hot lunch. We work with local food vendors to supply tasty, nutritious, homemade meals for our students. It makes lunch time simply a treat!

What is the difference between a GED and a high school diploma?

A General Educational Development (GED) is a high school equivalency diploma, while a diploma demonstrates high school graduation. The GED test is a 7-hour test that covers language arts, math, social studies, and science. When someone passes this test, it demonstrates equivalent knowledge in these core subjects as someone who holds a high school diploma.

According to the GED Testing Service, “Just under 100% of U.S. schools accept the GED, including community colleges, private secondary or technical institutes, and universities.”

It is a very valid way to start secondary education and get into a career for students who cannot, for whatever reason, complete high school.

As a school of choice, we firmly believe this is a good choice for some young people. It’s why we offer our Reengagement Program, where we help young people prepare for and take the GED test. We pay for the whole thing and see these young people through the whole way.

And best yet, we have seats open in this program.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, learn more and fill out the interest form on our website:

Are you considering our Evans Valley campus for the 2026–2027 school year? It’s a great choice, with a large emphasis on outdoor exploration and education.

Enrollment is open, and applications are already coming in.

Evans Valley has limited seats, especially in kindergarten, and we want families who are planning ahead to be aware of the timeline. So if Evans Valley is on your radar for next year, now is the time to apply.

Choosing a school is a big decision. Planning early gives your family clarity and peace of mind.

Have questions about Evans Valley or the enrollment process? Please reach out. We’re happy to help you think it through.
